Jun 29, 2005 well i played several schreiber bassoons so far. If you are financially in a tight budget the S16 model is a perfect fit. It resonates evenly throughout its registers and has rather consistent intonations. The S31 master model really does not make tooo much of a difference from the S16 model in terms of playing or superiority in sound and handeling.i recon you get a S16. Schreiber Bassoon Serial Numbers In Numbers
I have an old Schreiber bassoon that I bought off of Craigslist a while ago that I practice at home on and I'm just curious as to what model it is and how it fares against a standard like the fox Renard series of horns. It is an almost exact carbon copy of this horn (http://www.bassoon123.us/bassoon%20f..schreiber2.htm) except mine is only keyed to high c. Everything else is the same, and by same I mean that if I added a high d key to my bassoon they would be identical twins, right down to the wood grain, key-guards, key hinges, and logo on the bell. The serial number on the boot cap is 90xx, and the serial number on the top of the boot joint under the strap hook is 196xx. It plays better than the school schreiber bassoon I normally use, aside from not being able to play below g due to leaks.
Edit: Perhaps I should add, it says Shreiber & Sohne as well as Nauheim on the logo.
Edit 2: On second thought it is an exact carbon copy of this horn in every single possible way. (http://www.music-oldtimer.com/en/ins..2911-schreiber)
